The Cloud Accounting Blog - 2023 Year-End Review

Why was 2023 such a blur?

Your resolution must have been too low.

Hey hi! And welcome to 2024!

Straight to nagging right out of the gate!

Did you take a picture of your odometer? Did you remind your clients to - and tell them where to store it? And give them the new gov’t mileage rates?

Now onto the 2023 Most Clicked-on Articles From The Cloud Accounting Resources Blog

I know I said just recently that I love writing storyline blogs rather than list-based ones. And yet here I am, penning a list blog. I did mention that there are a few list-based notes that I enjoy reading, and I have quite a few new subscribers, so I thought, what the heck - let’s get all New Year's-y and put out a list of my own.

Let’s start with the list-based emails that I subscribe to. In alpha order, of course - yes, I have issues with orderliness :-}

Heather Smith’s Accounting Apps; I don’t think I have received a single issue where I didn’t click an article link or two.

Jason Staats What's Next For Accounting?; if you are into tech and accounting industry thought leadership, then this is a must-subscribe newsletter. And, of course, I’m a fangirl of his Realize community!

I also love reading Kate Johnson’s Bookkeeping Side Hustle; it’s a combination of lists and storylines. She is super inspiring for me and so genuine.

Ryan Lazanis’ Future Firm; there are always nuggets in his emails, and I think his program is doing great things for accounting firm owners who want to build their dream firm.

And now, onto my twelve most clicked blogs, along with the emails y’all replied to the most.

2. QBO Tech Tip - Canadian QBO Sales Tax Codes Defined

1. QBO Tech Tip - Reorder Bank Accounts And Collapse

I have to be honest; number two surprised me. I didn’t realize how many folks would refer to this blog, although, as my fellow Canadians know, the QBO Sales Tax Module can be a bit whacky.

And while I knew I had a ton of replies to my email on Reordering Bank Accounts in the feeds, I was taken aback by this being my blog's number one engaged article. I thought most folks knew this little trick - but clearly, you never know what someone doesn’t know.

One article that didn’t make the top twelve, which I think is an important one, and I would love if everyone noodled through it, is the Seven Simple Systems For Security Strength one. There are such actionables in it, and I hope you adopt the suggestions!

I am leaning in on regularly posting about QBO Tech Tips and Security, so check in on these categories as they become more robust resources. I have set up to do one of each category a month for 2024 rather than when they come to mind for me. Actually, my entire blog is becoming more intentional now that a media company is helping me with it.

My two favourite articles didn’t make the top twelve, so I am giving them an honourable mention.

Stop Cooking With Cheese and Does Your App Stack Resemble Our Landscaping Equipment?

The landscaping one was my girlfriend Sherri-Lee’s favourite, although she was really surprised that we have a regular golf cart rather than a fancy tricked-out one, but believe you me, it is high on our wish list.

I love writing to you, and it means the world to me that you read them! Here’s to the year that was 2023, and cheers to a rewarding and joyous 2024!

My big, hairy, audacious 2024 goal is to build my bookkeeping biz back up and guess who my niche is?

Yes, it’s you!

I love working with accounting pros and want you to be proud of your books! So I launched Accounting For Accountants.

Send me a note at kellie@calmwaters.ca, and let me know your big HAGs.

I craft processes and automation for future thinking accounting professionals who believe in the mightiness of online technology.

I want every accounting professional to love running a cloud-based business as much as I do.

Embracing the cloud requires effective best practices, consistent communication and efficient processes, systems and workflows, which is why have dozens of pre-built templates to take the pain of creating optimization in your firm off your plate.

Certified or partnered in over a dozen cloud applications, I’m also a proud member of the Intuit International Trainer Writer Network and the FreshBooks Partner Council.

I am a runner, water/snow skier and live-music fan.

I’m always wondering what you would do more of - outside of work - if processes, automation & apps gave you your life back!?
