My Son Can’t Sing
I just got kicked out of karaoke night for singing "Danger Zone" six times in a row…
They said I exceeded my maximum number of Loggins attempts…
My Son Can’t Sing
And by he can’t sing, I mean he really can’t sing…
That didn't keep him from becoming the lead singer of a band. He also played bass guitar and occasionally hopped on the drum kit, which is unusual for a lead singer. All 50 people who came to see the band play* over the years loved them, cause they were fun. And his bandmates were actually good singers.
The band is still together, but not with Riley. It was a good ride which ended amicably, and they played at his Stag & Doe**.
What Riley exemplified is that you don’t have to be the best at what you do to enjoy it or be successful. What you do need is good people around you, enthusiasm and the right equipment.
Running an accounting bookkeeping firm is the same. As the owner, you don’t need to be the best tax return preparer on the planet. You need to understand the basics, put the right processes in place, and then hire people who are better at tax work than you. Or better at bookkeeping, or advisory…
If doing your firm’s internal QBO bookkeeping is not something you love, are good at or don’t have someone to delegate to, I’m your gal. Same with clean-ups. I am really, really good at cleanups and would love to help your firm shine when you get a hot mess QBO file.
*Just kidding, more than 50 people came to see them :-}
Also, Riley caught wind of this post and wanted y’all to know that even though he is a terrible singer, he is still the best one in our family. Sadly, he’s not wrong. He also reminded me that I am not the worst skier in our family; he is. Also true. 🤣🤣
**A Stag & Doe, I have come to learn, is a uniquely Canadian tradition, being especially common in Ontario and parts of Manitoba. It’s a pre-wedding party where the engaged couple, or their friends, host a large community event (often at a Legion hall) to raise money for the wedding or for charity. Guests buy tickets, play games, and enjoy drinks and music, all while supporting the couple or their cause. They are awesome because you can invite way more people to celebrate with you, with none of the limitations and stress that often come with a wedding.
