Do Not Use The QBO Bank Feed “Find A Match” For Posting Multiple Payments - Received Or Paid!

The QBO bank feeds have a nifty feature that allows you to match a single transaction (money in and money out) to multiple transactions. While it may be tempting to use this feature, I recommend you don’t.

It can make for wonky future issues with the transaction if matched this way.

  • The total transaction will not come up in a search (and by now, you know how much I love universal search!)

  • The data is difficult to review against supplier statements

  • Causes confusion when viewing bills

It can cause trouble with current transactions.

  • The match” may not indeed fully match, leaving this irritating partial transaction in the bank feed.

The match multiple transactions is, however, a big timesaver for identifying which multiple transactions may be part of a payment and creating the payments.

  1. Open the find a match in one tab

  2. Once it gives you a curated list of the transactions, open a second tab, go to the customer or supplier and create the matching payment

  3. Confirm payment with the client?

I love the bank feeds and find a match, especially for combined transactions. But, like many things in our apps, proceed with caution and use best practices to save headaches along the way.
